What is beeswax?
Beeswax is a natural raw material produced by honeybees for building honeycombs. It consists of a complex blend of natural components, mainly esters, free fatty acids and hydrocarbons. Unprocessed beeswax is usually yellow to golden in colour and has a subtle honey-like scent. It is water-insoluble, dimensionally stable and easy to work with when warmed. This makes it suitable for a wide range of applications in candles, cosmetics and care products.
Which beeswax grades are available?
Beeswax is available in different grades depending on the intended use. Our range includes beeswax for candles and technical applications such as polishes or as a natural protective coating for wood and leather, beeswax for cosmetic applications, food-grade beeswax, and beeswax blends. Depending on the application, purity, processing and specification vary.
Candle quality – beeswax for candles
For genuine beeswax candles, purity and even burning behaviour are essential. Refined wax reduces the risk of soot formation, smoke development and uneven burning. Our candle-grade beeswax is designed for the production of high-quality candles and is also suitable for technical applications such as polishes or as a natural protective coating for wood and leather. It is particularly well suited to workshops, manufacturers and professional candle production.
Cosmetic grade
For cosmetic applications, beeswax must be refined, tested for harmful substances and suitable for direct skin contact. In INCI labelling, yellow beeswax is referred to as Cera flava and white beeswax as Cera alba. In cosmetics, beeswax is used, among other things, as a consistency agent, emollient and emulsifier. White beeswax is particularly popular because it hardly affects the colour of creams, balms and lip care products.

Food-grade beeswax
In the food industry, beeswax is approved under the designation E 901. It is used, among other things, as a glazing, releasing and coating agent. Typical applications include fruit, confectionery and chewing gum. We only supply this grade on request from 100 kg.
Beeswax blend
Beeswax blends contain real beeswax, but are combined with other waxes or additives. They are usually more affordable than pure beeswax and can be a cost-effective alternative for certain applications. However, they are not the right choice for products where pure beeswax is explicitly required. This applies above all to high-quality candles and natural cosmetics.
Synthetic beeswax
Synthetic beeswax is a technically produced alternative with wax-like properties. It is not based on natural beeswax, but on other waxes and wax components. Its advantage lies in consistent quality and excellent reproducibility. This makes it easy to plan for certain cosmetic applications and often more cost-effective.

FAQ
RAL is a quality mark for candles. For beeswax candles, this means that the wax contains pure beeswax and no harmful or prohibited additives. Certain quality requirements must also be met during production and while burning.
Important: Our waxes meet the requirements for RAL-compliant candles. However, they are not RAL-certified themselves, as the quality mark is only granted for finished candles.
